Introduction Prophet Sulaiman (A.S.) โ known as Solomon in other traditions โ was not only a great king but also a humble servant of Allah. He ruled with unmatched wisdom and justice, commanding the winds, the jinn, and the animals. Yet, despite all his power and knowledge, his heart remained deeply devoted to Allah. His story is a timeless reminder that true greatness lies in gratitude, humility, and the wise use of blessings.

๐ถ A Gifted Child and a Wise King
Prophet Sulaiman (A.S.) was the son of Prophet Dawud (A.S.), who himself was a king and a prophet blessed with wisdom and a beautiful voice. From a young age, Sulaiman (A.S.) displayed intelligence and understanding that surpassed his peers.
One famous incident from the Qurโan tells how two people came to Prophet Dawud (A.S.) with a dispute over sheep that had grazed in another manโs field. Before his father could judge, young Sulaiman (A.S.) offered a solution that showed his deep insight: he suggested that the man whose field was damaged take the sheep temporarily, benefiting from their milk and wool, until the owner of the sheep restored the field. Dawud (A.S.) immediately recognized his sonโs exceptional wisdom.
Allah says in the Qurโan: โAnd We gave understanding of the case to Sulaiman, and to each [of them] We gave judgment and knowledge.โ (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:79)
๐ The Kingdom of Miracles –
As Prophet and King, Sulaiman (A.S.) was granted control over the forces of nature and unseen creation โ a true miracle from Allah. The wind carried him wherever he wished. The jinn worked for him, building palaces and crafting intricate structures. Even birds and animals could understand and obey him.
Yet, instead of letting power make him arrogant, Prophet Sulaiman (A.S.) constantly thanked Allah for every blessing. His dua was sincere and humble: โMy Lord, inspire me to be thankful for Your favors which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness that will please You.โ (Surah An-Naml 27:19)
๐ The Queen of Sheba (Bilqis)
Among the most famous stories of Prophet Sulaiman (A.S.) is his encounter with the Queen of Sheba, known as Bilqis. When the hoopoe bird brought him news of her people worshipping the sun instead of Allah, Sulaiman (A.S.) sent a letter inviting her to submit to the One True God.
Bilqis was a wise ruler herself, and after witnessing the miracles of Prophet Sulaiman โ his throne moved from Yemen to Jerusalem in the blink of an eye โ she recognized the truth. She said: โMy Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Sulaiman to Allah, Lord of the worlds.โ (Surah An-Naml 27:44)
This moment was not a display of dominance, but of guidance and dawah โ showing how wisdom and humility can lead hearts toward faith.
๐ The Lesson of Gratitude –
Despite ruling one of the most powerful kingdoms on earth, Prophet Sulaiman (A.S.) never forgot his dependence on Allah. When he saw the magnificent throne of Bilqis brought before him in an instant, he said: โThis is by the favor of my Lord, to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful.โ (Surah An-Naml 27:40)
This ayah captures the heart of his story โ every blessing is a test. Wealth, power, and influence are not signs of superiority, but responsibilities to be used with gratitude and justice.
๐ก Reflection for Today
Prophet Sulaiman (A.S.) teaches us that true leadership begins with humility. His story reminds us that gratitude unlocks the door to contentment, while arrogance leads to downfall. In a world that values success and status, his life whispers a divine truth โ the greatest power is in saying Alhamdulillah sincerely.
